Nancy's Story

Dear Friend,

It has been a while since we connected, or we may have recently just met, so I wanted to take this opportunity to follow up with you to share a little bit more about myself.

I am very blessed and grateful because things are going really well for me right now, so I have been looking back at my life and considering what has led me to this point, and wondering why I am who I am, personally and professionally.

In retrospect, I have experienced and accomplished a lot in my life, and everything that I have been through has contributed to the person that I have become, but there is one particular turning point that dramatically changed everything.

To understand who I am and how I got here, it’s important to know a little bit about my background, first. I was born in Downey California but lived in Boston from the age of three to eleven, which is when we relocated back to the West Coast and settled into the San Fernando Valley.

I had the sweetest parents, who were committed to not only providing for their children, but to also pay it forward to those less fortunate. My Dad owned an insurance agency and was a natural salesman. He treated his customers with the true respect and fabulous service, and in return they were fiercely loyal to him. His example in business would come in handy in my own career.

My mom was also very kindhearted and no matter how thin that things sometimes got (as they do in the sales industry), she could always scrape together enough money to provide for those who had less than we did, another characteristic that I have tried to emulate in my own life.

Despite the fact that my parents provided me with all the safety and stability that I needed, I was a bit rebellious in my teenage years, as so many children from peaceful homes can be. I wasn’t a bad kid, I just lacked a plan or direction for my future.

Fast forward to my late twenties, I found myself divorced with two children, and still lacking a path towards success, but that is when everything started to change for me.

During that time, I was living in Santa Barbara with my two sons and waiting tables at a steak house to pay the bills, so I was frustrated with the direction my life had taken.

While I was working at the restaurant a real estate group used to come in every Thursday at noon for a meeting. I got to know them pretty well, and one of the gentlemen would always tell me that he thought that I would make a great REALTOR®.

To be completely honest, I always thought he was flirting with me, so I always brushed aside his recommendations. Then one day we crossed paths in the parking lot after I finished my shift. Again, he told me that he thought I’d be great in real estate.

“I’m serious,” he told me when he saw me roll my eyes.

Then I started to realize that he wasn’t joking.

“It’s only one hundred and sixty dollars to sign up,” he said.

“I don’t have that,” I told him, honestly. That was a lot of money back then, and like I said, times were hard. He told me not to worry about it and that he would loan me the licensing fees until I made my first sale. I took him up on the offer, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

As soon as I got into this field, I felt like a natural. I took to it like a duck to water, so I immediately started moving forward in my new career. My mentor and I ran all over Santa Barbara and Goleta listing and selling homes, and from there I was off into the future that I had always searched for.

Since then, I have started four successful real estate businesses from the ground up and been very successful at doing so. I have worked with countless clients and hundreds of properties, and the reason why I have flourished is because above all else, I am here to serve my clients.

I also absolutely love sale, not because of transactions or commission, but instead because I truly enjoy working with people and providing them the best service possible, a lesson that I learned so long ago from witnessing my father’s approach to his customers. I believe that I have followed his lead well because over 90% of my business is referrals!

I have been doing this for over thirty years now, and over that time, I have realized how important that day in the parking lot of the steak house has been to my life. It really was my big break and a spring board into the future for me, and looking back now, I understand it was meant to happen. This is where I am supposed to be, and I believe that it was Divine intervention that showed me this path.

Although I love my career, that is not all that is important to me, though! In 2003, I married, Larry, who is a restaurateur and such as kind man; he really is the love of my life. Together we have seven children and sixteen grandchildren. Our families mean the world to us, and with 25 of us, things are always busy and interesting, to say the least!

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my life. I would love nothing more than to lend my knowledge and experience toward helping you with your real estate endeavors, but I don’t expect your business simply because of our relationship—I only ask that you give me the opportunity to demonstrate my services and interview for the job.

With gratitude,
